CNYSpeaks is proud to assist the La Casita Cultural Project by hosting a logo contest for the organization, which uses the arts to engage Syracuse’s Latino community.
CNYSpeaks hosted a similar effort for the group Arts Covenant, which led to more than a thousand Central New Yorkers voting for the organization’s logo, which is now displayed on all Arts Covenant materials.
The difference between the two contests is interesting. Arts Covenant had an open call for logos, and received some from professional designers. It then had the public select the winner. La Casita went with a riskier approach, engaging school children to draw potential logos. The youngest kids were in kindergarten; the oldest only in 4th grade!
The results are quite compelling, as La Casita ended up with many beautiful, whimsical, and colorful designs. It had Syracuse University faculty and staff select the five logos they liked best, and now the public gets to choose between them. The winning design will become La Casita’s official emblem.
